Tizen Hardware and Player

Supported Samsung Tizen displays for ScreenCloud Arc, minimum requirements, how to install and set up the Tizen player, and known limitations.

ScreenCloud's Samsung Tizen player runs natively on Samsung Smart Signage displays, so no separate media player is needed. This article covers which displays are supported, how to install and configure the player, and the limitations to be aware of before you commit to Tizen hardware.

Supported versions are SSSP 10 on Tizen 6.5 and TEP on Tizen 7.0. Of the two, Tizen 7 is the one to buy. Tizen 6.5 carries app limitations that affect what you can display, covered under Tizen player limitations below.

Tizen Hardware

Minimum requirements

  • SSSP 10 on Tizen 6.5, or TEP on Tizen 7.0

  • 8 GB of storage or higher, 16 GB preferred

  • A stable internet connection, with Ethernet preferred over WiFi

Not supported

  • Consumer Samsung TVs. These lack the commercial Tizen OS the player requires. To use a consumer TV, connect a supported media player to it instead.

  • SSSP 7 on Tizen 5.

  • SSSP 6 on Tizen 4. This OS version has reached end of support and receives no further updates or fixes. Tizen 4 displays ship with Chromium 56, which no longer receives security updates, so they are limited to media playback only: images, documents and video. Apps, links and feeds will not render. If you have Tizen 4 displays, connect a supported media player rather than replacing the screen.

Professional signboards

  • QHB Series: QH43B, QH50B, QH55B, QH65B, QH75B

Tizen Player Setup

Preparing your Tizen display

If you are setting up a Samsung Tizen display for the first time, complete these steps before installing the player. The same steps apply to both SSSP 10 on Tizen 6.5 and TEP on Tizen 7.0.

  1. Switch on the display.

  2. Select your language.

  3. Configure the internet connection, then review and accept the device's terms and conditions.

  4. When asked for Display Orientation, select Landscape. Orientation is managed in ScreenCloud, not on the display.

  5. Disable Auto Power Off.

  6. At Play Via, skip the step by pressing the return button and then the right arrow button on the remote.

  7. At RM Server setup, select Skip or Set for Now.

  8. Set the Local Date and Time.

  9. Set a PIN. The default 000000 is fine for now.

Basic setup is now complete.

Installing the Tizen player from a URL

  1. Press the Home button on the remote.

  2. Select Custom App. If Custom App is not there, the panel is set to load MagicINFO instead of the LFD Launcher. See Switching from MagicINFO to Custom App below.

  3. Select Install Web App and enter: https://t.screen.cloud

  4. The player installs and boots automatically.

  5. Press the yellow C button or the Info button on the remote to open the Player Settings sidebar. If the sidebar appears, the player is installed correctly.

A pairing code will show on screen. You can now pair the screen and start publishing content.

Installing the Tizen player from USB

Preparing the USB drive

  1. Create a folder on the USB drive named SSSP.

  2. Download https://t.screen.cloud/tizenplayer.wgt into the SSSP folder.

  3. Open https://t.screen.cloud/sssp_config.xml, right-click, choose Save as, and save it into the same SSSP folder.

  4. Check that the version number between the <ver> tags matches the latest Tizen player release listed in the ScreenCloud Player Software Changelogs.

Both files should now sit in the SSSP folder.

Installing from the USB drive

  1. Insert the USB drive into the USB slot on the back of the display.

  2. Press Home on the remote.

  3. Select Custom App.

  4. Select Install From USB Device. The player downloads, installs and launches automatically.

  5. Press the yellow C button or the Info button to open the Player Settings sidebar and confirm the install.

Switching from MagicINFO to Custom App

If the display loads MagicINFO instead of the launcher, switch it over:

  1. Use the Source button to change to HDMI, DVI or similar.

  2. Press the Menu button.

  3. Select System, scroll down and select Play via, then set it to Custom App.

  4. Restart the panel. The Custom App will now load instead of MagicINFO.

Recommended Tizen display settings

These settings make a meaningful difference to reliability on Samsung displays.

Turn off Auto Source Switching

  1. Press Home on the remote and select System.

  2. Select Auto Source Switching and set it to Off.

Turn off power saving

  1. Press Home on the remote and select System.

  2. Go to Power Control and set Auto Power On to On.

  3. Set Max. Power Saving to Off.

Turn off eco saving

  1. Press Home on the remote and select System.

  2. Go to Eco Solution and set all four options to Off. On SSSP 10 Tizen 6.5 this section is named Power and Energy Saving.

Tizen Player Management

Player settings sidebar

Open the sidebar by pressing the yellow C button or the Info button on the remote while the player is running. It contains:

  • Screen name. The name of the screen, editable on the device.

  • Rotation. Set screen rotation to 0, 90, 180 or 270 degrees.

  • Clear cache. Clears stored data to resolve playback problems.

  • Reload. Refreshes the player.

  • Reset pairing. Generates a new pairing code.

  • Reboot system. Restarts the player.

  • Daily restart. Sets a time for the device to restart each day. Recommended, set to off-hours.

  • Build version. The player app version.

  • Uptime. How long the player has been paired.

  • Platform info. Device specifications.

There is no Start at Boot toggle on Tizen. The behavior is built into the player and is always on as long as the app is installed.

Tizen player limitations

The Tizen player does not perform to the same level as ScreenCloud's own hardware. The limitations below are inherent to the platform rather than bugs.

Chromium version limits which apps can run

The player uses Chromium to render apps, links and feeds. Each Tizen OS version is locked to a Chromium build that Samsung no longer advances, so older displays cannot run apps that require a newer build.

OS version

Chromium build

Tizen 6.5

Chromium 85

Tizen 7

Chromium 94

What this means in practice on Tizen 6.5:

  • Power BI will not run. It requires Chromium 94 or higher.

  • Canva will not run. It requires Chromium 86 or higher.

  • The Embed app and links vary. Whether they render depends on what the linked page itself requires.

When an app cannot render, it appears blank, black, white or grey on screen. Some show an error instead, such as Canva's "Please update your browser" message. The preview in your account will look normal, which is why on-screen behaviour is the thing to check.

This is the practical reason to buy Tizen 7 rather than Tizen 6.5.

Video playback

  • Black flash between clips. When content switches from a video to anything else, a black flash occurs. It does not happen switching from non-video content into a video.

  • One video at a time. Running more than one video simultaneously is likely to crash the player. If you are using a layout with a secondary zone, keep video to a single zone.

Uninstalling the Tizen player

  1. Press Home on the remote while the player is running.

  2. Go to Features, then Apps.

  3. Select the settings icon at the top right, between the search and X buttons.

  4. Select the ScreenCloud app from the list.

  5. Select Delete and confirm.

Troubleshooting ScreenCloud on Samsung Tizen

Work through these before contacting support.

Step

Task

How to do it

1

Clear the cache

Open the sidebar with the yellow C or Info button, then select Clear Cache.

2

Power cycle the display

Turn it off for a few minutes, then back on.

3

Check for OS updates

Make sure the display is on the latest Tizen version available to it.

4

Check the internet connection

Confirm the display has a strong, stable connection.

5

Check the power adapter

A failing adapter causes intermittent instability.

6

Remove unnecessary apps

So the display runs only the ScreenCloud player.

7

Reinstall the player

Uninstall and reinstall, then re-pair.

8

Factory reset

Reinstall the player as a last step.

If the problem persists after all of the above, the display may be faulty. Contact Samsung, or connect a supported media player to the display instead.

FAQ

Does the Tizen player have a Start at Boot option?

Not as a toggle. It is always enabled automatically while the player app is installed.

Setup shows "URL launcher: Unable to connect to the server. Please try again later". How do I fix it?

Apply the display's device time and NTP server network settings under DNS. The player will then connect and show the pairing code.

I have a consumer Samsung TV. Can I still use it?

Yes, but not with the Tizen player. Connect a supported media player to the TV instead. See Hardware for ScreenCloud for options.

Why does content look fine in preview but not on screen?

The preview renders in your browser, not on the display, so it is not subject to the device's Chromium limits. On-screen output is the accurate check.
